The Top 10 Gifts A Woman Can Buy The Man In Her Life Who Has "Everything"Category: Consumer, Buying, Purchasing, Suggestions (BU10)Originally Submitted on 1/10/97. Men can be VERY hard to buy gifts for these days. Many men I know or who have known (myself included) are so particular about gifts and what they use, wear, and own, that they buy for themselves year around, making gift-giving from others to them a REAL quandry! I hope this list will give women a few unusual or different ideas as to what they might get the man in their life who seems to "have everything," and I am making copies for a couple of women *I* know to help them with buying for ME as well! 1. Say It With A Photo. How about a classy "boudoir" calendar, or a professionally done recent photo of yourself (maybe even Glamor Shots--they DO take some incredibly good photos). Men can't buy this for themselves! It's a gift that can go on giving also! 2. Get Him A VERY "Personalized" Book. Find out his favorite author, politician, or famous person who has recently written a biography or a bestseller. There is at least one company where you call an 800 number, and give them the author, or book title, and if they have it, they will sell you the book personally AUTOGRAPHED by the author! No additional fee. Check the Net for companies that provide this service. I have used it several times for myself and as gifts. 3. Good food, A Fine Wine, and A Good Time!. Depending on his culinary and other tastes, give your man a "gift certificate" written by you, for a dinner for two (or more if you like) at the restaurant he would MOST enjoy. Arrange ahead of time with the chef and staff to have his favorite meal available, as well as his favoite wine or other drinks. He can use it whenever he wants..during the holidays or at another time. 4. Rock His World With A Rubdown! Find a VERY good masseur or masseuse in your city and arrange to have them give your man 1-2 45 minute massage sessions, including foot reflexology and aroma therapy, if available. This is a GREAT executive gift for the typical stressed-out man who is not real good at "extreme self care!" He may like it so well he will continue it, thus continuing to aid his health and his mood as well. 5. Surprise Holiday Visit! No, not from Santa or Ed McMahon or the "Prize Patrol!". If your man can't have family or very close friends around him at the holiday season, arrange to fly or get one or SOME of them to him for the holiday as a surprise. Use plane, boat, bus, or whatever means works. He'll be surpised and happy and so will they. Air fares usually drop alot during holiday times if you plan ahead. 6. Special Gift Certificate. Whether is is rather conservative and practical, or a free spirit, there are three stores who have branch stores, catalogs and even Internet shopping, which sell everything from hot air balloons to gadgets, electronics, clothing, watches, business items, and all other manner of exotic and unusual gifts. They are: The Sharper Image, Hammacher Schlemmer, and Neiman Marcus. Give him a $100-$500-$? gift certificate. If he can't find anything THERE, give him a gift certificate for some coaching, because they have EVERYTHING anyone could possibly want or need or NOT need! I know, because I frequent their stores and catalogues. They even have practical gifts! 7. For The Sports Fan Man. Find out what his favorite football, basketball, or baseball team is-preferably his favorite athelete in those sports. Buy him an authographed baseball, football, or basketball by that athlete! Prices will run $75-1000. depending on who the athlete is. Make certain to buy from a reputable dealer in sports memorabilia and authograhs! Check the Internet under "Authgraph Dealers" and "Sports Memorabilia." There are several listed. Make certain they belong to a professional association of dealers in autographed materials, AND that they guarantee their autographed goods with a "certificate of authenticity." Go with the ones who have been in business at least 5-10 years. 8. "Buff Up" His Car! Even if he *doesn't* have a new Lexus or BMW, arrange with a local car "detail" shop to have his car picked up, washed and cleaned inside and out, and basically look like new! Most men take alot of pride in their cars, but many simply don't have the time and equipment to clean and polish them well inside and out. Car "detailers" do. Check the Yellow Pages. Best prices are for "package deals" where they do the entire car, inside and out, rather than just washing and waxing the outside. 9. "Write On!" Gifts. For the executive or businessman in your life, buy him a fine Mt. Blanc fountain or ballpoint pen, and have his initials or name engraved in gold into the black lacquer. The company I know that does the most of this nationally is "Graph Aids/Daniels, in Los Angeles, CA.(1-800-2-Daniels). They also used to advertise on Prodigy and the Internet. They have a HUGE selection of many brands, all price ranges, and do the personalization, wrapping and shipping all from their location. They are fast also, unless it is the 11th hour on a holiday. This is the type of gift that is both personal as well as functional, and depending on your budget (they sell 14K gold Cartier fountain pens for $1000. also) it can also be a very classy and luxurious present that will be worthy of passing along as an heirloom. 10. Give Him The Stars! There is a company that, for $45.00, will pick and name and "register" a star in the heavens for you or anyone you designate! I was gifted a star by a friend through this company 10 years ago, and the lovely framed, hand scrolled certificate and map showing my star on a star chart is one of my favorite wall hangings. The company's on the "net" at http://www.shopsite.com/stars/ and they have a personal AND a corporate gift department. For the money, it is a unique, definitely "one of a kind" gift. They say "a diamond is forever." But diamonds can chip, crack, get lost, or stolen. I think it's safe to say a *star* will last an eternity. At least it will be in your man's name as long as it is in existance!
