The Top 10 Reasons Jesus Was the Perfect Life-CoachCategory: Special Markets for Coaches (CF13)Originally Submitted on 10/13/97. Coaching is not new. It is, in fact, an ancient form of bringing out the best in other people! The mission and ministry of Jesus of Nazareth, as it is portayed in the four canonized Gospels, serves to illustrate the point. 1. He had a clear Vision. Now after John was arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the good news." - Mark 1:14-15, NRSV 2. He had a clear Mission Statement, and taught about abundance from there. "I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly." - John 10:10, (see also Matthew 25:14-30) NRSV 3. He invited people to grow and follow him; yet did not force anyone to do so, or reject them for not doing so. Another of his disciples said to him, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father." But Jesus said to him, "Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead." - Matthew 8:21-22 4. He had clearly identified his own client niche. Go and learn what this means, 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.' For I have come to call not the righteous but sinners." Mattew 9:13; (see also Mark:2:17; Luke 5:32) NRSV 5. He warned others that when their personal foundation changed because of his coaching, their rolodex of relationships. would change as well "Do you think that I have come to bring peace to the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division! From now on five in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three; they will be divided: father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law." Luke 12:51-53 (see also Matthew 10:34-36) NRSV 6. He carefully selected his client base with only coachable people, and warned all prospects that following his program. was not for the faint of heart A scribe then approached and said, "Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go." And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head." Matthew 8:20 (see also Luke 9:58) NRSV 7. He caused "Shifts and Leaps" in his listeners by means of distinctions in his teachings. This is clear from the Sermon on the Mount (e.g. Matthew 5:3-22), and it's parallel Sermon on the Plain (see Luke 6:20-38); Jesus utilized the ancient rabbinical formula for distinctions: "You have heard that it was said, _______; But I say unto you, __________." 8. He coached with "the edge", even at great personal/professional risk. Then they came to Jerusalem. And he entered the temple and began to drive out those who were selling and those who were buying in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves; and he would not allow anyone to carry anything through the temple. He was teaching and saying, "Is it not written, 'My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations'? But you have made it a den of robbers." - Mark 11:15-17 (see also Matthew 21:13 & Luke 19:46) NRSV 9. He taught about manifesting their beliefs. "Truly I tell you, if you say to this mountain, 'Be taken up and thrown into the sea,' and if you do not doubt in your heart, but believe that what you say will come to pass, it will be done for you. So I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours." - Mark 11:23-24 (see also Matthew 21:22, John 15:7) NRSV 10. He had compassion, and genuinely loved the people with whom he worked, and taught others to do the same. For a few examples, see Matthew 9:36, 25:31-46; Mark 6:34,and Luke 7:13, NRSV.
