Positive reinforcements that work.

1. Name a day in someone's honor.

You can play this up as much as you want to. Ideas include a recognition meeting with staff, a meal or cake, a gift presentation, a certificate presentation, even a testimonial by an internal or external customer of the employee's exceptional value laden work.

2. Give away small items.

Movie tickets, cookies, pens, key chains....

3. Write a personal thank-you letter.

Small thank-yous start on sticky notes and large efforts arrive on store-bought cards.

4. Give some of you, take the employee out to lunch.

5. Acknowledge them in a staff meeting.

6. Give them extra time off.

We all like getting off early the last work day of the week.

7. Give a car wash certificate.

8. Start a column in your newsletter for employee recognition.

9. Tell the employees' clients about the recognition.

10. Invite the significant other to the recognition.
